5 Tips for Planning a European Destination Wedding

July 1, 2021

The wedding of your dreams in the location of your dreams. Your European wedding is more than just a dream away, with the right team in place, it is a dream come true. As a destination wedding photographer, I am well traveled and versed in how to organize and plan incredible celebrations in incredible locations. I have compiled my top 5 tips for planning a European destination wedding.

1- Hire an amazing planner. They know the ins and outs of international destinations, what you need, what you don’t need, all the secrets, and not to mention create incredible concepts and ideas to bring your vision to life.

2- Plan a fun welcome party to get everyone together on arrival to start the celebrations! Something beautiful and fun is a great way to set the tone, welcome your guests, and get the energy going. Most destination wedding photographers will include 2-3 hours of coverage in your collection to document from start to finish your wedding experience, so go all out.

3- Let the destination inspire your design. Look to the elements of your location to guide your vision. Find one item about the area that speaks to you and build your concept around that.

4- Be sure to have the proper paperwork, permits, and fees. And don’t forget your passport. Be sure it doesn’t expire less than 6 months from your travel date. Some countries will deny entry at the border if it is less.

5- Learn a few words and phrases in the destination language. It is always wonderful and appreciated by locals when you can communicate together. Your experience feels more like home when you can get by at least with the basics in the local language.
